Todd Moen

From Montana to Oregon

Todd Moen was born in Helena, Montana, and grew up in the Pacific Northwest, where wild rivers and rugged landscapes shaped his connection to the outdoors. His move to Oregon later became the foundation for his filmmaking career, blending his Northwest roots with a passion for storytelling and conservation.

Born in Helena, Montana,

raised in the Pacific Northwest,

Todd Moen grew up exploring the rivers and forests around Issaquah, Washington, where early weekends on the Skykomish sparked a lifelong connection to water, art, and fly fishing. After discovering fly casting on family trips to Glacier National Park and the Greater Yellowstone Region, Todd’s passion quickly expanded to include cameras and storytelling, first documenting local outings with a borrowed camcorder, and later pursuing photography and videography at Montana State University.

Todd spent his early career guiding in Big Sky and filming throughout Yellowstone country before joining professional production crews that took him around the world for ESPN and OLN. Under the mentorship of the late Bryant “Bear” Blackburn, he refined a style rooted in simplicity, music-driven editing, and a one-man-crew approach that has become his signature.

In 2008, Todd co-founded Catch Magazine,

the globally recognized online journal dedicated to fly-fishing photography and film. Through his long-running T-Motion Theater series, he has produced dozens of acclaimed short films featuring remote destinations, thoughtful storytelling, and a focus on conservation-minded angling. His work combines underwater cinematography, evolving drone expertise, and a deep respect for fish, water, and the people who share their stories with him.

Todd has filmed in some of the world’s most iconic fisheries... from New Zealand’s South Island to northern Argentina, the Bahamas, Finland, Brazil, Ireland, Australia, northern Quebec and beyond...documenting anglers, cultures, and landscapes with an eye toward history, education, and environmental awareness. His collaborations with industry legends such as Joan Wulff & John Norman MacLean, plus many others that highlight decades of relationships built through a life on the water.

Still based in the Pacific Northwest with his family, Todd continues to create, edit, and expand Catch Magazine while producing independent projects, mentoring new contributors, and exploring fisheries close to home. Known for producing one of the most authentic bodies of work in the industry, he collaborates closely with some of the world’s most skilled and genuine anglers...people who live and breathe the water and embody the craft at its highest level. Whether filming halfway around the world or on a local stream, his work remains grounded in patience, music, craftsmanship, and a belief that fly-fishing stories told honestly, have the power to inspire, teach, and endure.
